Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about DTF transfers, ordering, and application.
Getting Started with DTF
4 questionsDirect to Film (DTF) printing is an innovative printing method that allows custom designs to be printed onto a special film and then heat-transferred onto fabric using a heat press. The process begins by printing your design onto the film using high-quality DTF inks. An adhesive powder is applied and cured, allowing the design to bond cleanly and durably to garments of almost any fabric type. Once ready, the printed film is pressed onto a shirt or item using heat and pressure, creating vibrant, detailed, and long-lasting prints.
DTF printing offers more flexibility and ease than traditional methods like screen printing or sublimation. Unlike sublimation, which only works on polyester and light-colored fabrics, DTF transfers can be applied to nearly any fabric type, including cotton, blends, and dark garments. Compared to screen printing, DTF does not require screens or setup fees, making it ideal for short runs and full-color, detailed artwork. Plus, DTF prints are soft to the touch, highly durable, and wash-resistant.
DTF transfers provide vibrant colors, exceptional detail, and excellent durability, making them perfect for custom t-shirts, hoodies, bags, and more. Benefits include:
- No minimums – order as few as one transfer
- Any fabric – works on cotton, polyester, blends, canvas, denim
- No weeding or cutting required
- Gang sheet printing saves time and money
- Professional results without the typical hassle of traditional print methods
We have no minimum order quantity. You're welcome to order a single DTF transfer for testing, personal use, or a small project. Whether you need one or one hundred, we support creators of all sizes. Try our free sample pack to test before committing to a larger run.

Artwork & Design Guidelines
10 questionsWe recommend 300 DPI (dots per inch) for sharp, professional results. This ensures clean lines, vibrant colors, and crisp detail even for small fonts or intricate artwork. Lower-resolution files may appear blurry or pixelated when printed.
Design in RGB color mode. Our DTF printers are optimized for vibrant RGB-based output, which allows for a broader color spectrum. Your neon pinks and deep blues will really pop on the fabric.
Yes, a transparent background is ideal if you only want the visible parts of your design printed. If your file has a solid white or colored background, that background will print too. Need help removing it? Select “Order by Size” and leave a note for our designers.
PNG is our recommended format, especially with a transparent background. It preserves fine details beautifully. We also accept JPEG, PDF, and TIFF. If you're unsure, our designers can convert your file into a print-ready format.
Our system accepts files up to 2GB per file, and you can upload multiple files at once. Gang sheets can go up to 22 inches wide by 20 feet tall. Just make sure your file is high-resolution and within those limits.
Leave at least 0.1 inches of space between each design on a gang sheet. This helps with precise cutting and prevents designs from overlapping during application.
We print exactly what you send, but if we notice something major (super low-res, missing elements), we'll reach out before printing. For design help like background removal or resizing, choose “Order by Size” and leave a note. Our design team has your back.
Colors can vary slightly from screen to print due to display settings and lighting. For best results: work in RGB, use a calibrated monitor if possible, and avoid overly saturated or neon tones that can shift in print. Our printers are calibrated for vibrant, consistent color output.
The most common mistakes include:
- Uploading files under 150 DPI
- Forgetting to remove the background
- Using JPEG instead of transparent PNG
- Not leaving spacing on gang sheets
- Including tiny text or blurry logos
Avoiding these will make a huge difference in your final result.
We do a quick quality check before printing. If we spot low resolution, missing artwork, or color concerns, we'll pause your order and contact you by email. If your file looks good, we go straight to print to keep turnaround fast.
Ordering Process
11 questionsBoth options are available. Guest checkout works perfectly. However, creating an account lets you track orders and easily reorder designs in the future.
A gang sheet lets you print multiple designs on one larger sheet, reducing costs and maximizing material. It's ideal for printing various smaller designs or logos at once. Simply arrange multiple designs within one file before uploading. Learn more in our gang sheet guide.
Use design software like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop:
- Create a canvas 22 inches wide (height as needed)
- Place designs with 0.1″ minimum spacing
- Ensure transparent backgrounds
- Save at 300 DPI as PNG
Clear spacing and transparency guarantee sharp prints and easy cutting.
Yes, our platform supports uploading multiple designs either as separate files or together on one gang sheet. This flexibility helps manage printing projects efficiently and reduces costs.
We accept PNG, PDF, JPEG, and TIFF files up to 2GB. PNG with transparent backgrounds is strongly recommended for optimal clarity. Our designers can help convert other formats if needed.
We print directly if everything looks good, but if our designers identify potential problems, we'll contact you before printing. Want a proof regardless? Leave a note at checkout or message us, and we'll provide a digital proof for approval.
Gang sheets go up to 22″ wide × 20 feet tall. Minimum recommended size is about 1″ × 1″ to ensure clear detail. Contact us for special sizing requirements.
No. Upload your artwork in its correct orientation. We handle all necessary mirroring automatically for heat transfer application.
Yes! We save your designs in your account for up to 2 months. Log in, select your previous design, and checkout. Fast and convenient reordering.
If your order hasn't started production, you can modify it by contacting support immediately. Once printing begins, changes aren't possible and you'd need to place a new order.
We strongly recommend transparent PNG files for the cleanest results. If you need help with background removal, request it when selecting “Order by Size.” For gang sheet orders, please ensure files are finalized before submission.
Application & Heat Pressing
11 questionsApplying DTF transfers is simple:
- Pre-press garment for 5 seconds to remove moisture
- Position the transfer film design-side up
- Press at recommended temperature for 8 seconds with medium-firm pressure
- Peel warm or cold
For detailed instructions, see our heat press guide.
Cotton: 320°F for 8 seconds
Polyester and blends: 280°F for 8 seconds
Pressure: Firm, even pressure
Use medium to firm pressure (about 6–8 PSI if your press has digital settings). Too little pressure causes poor adhesion; too much can distort the fabric. Uniform pressure across the entire surface ensures crisp edges.
DTFSheet transfers support both warm peel and cold peel. After pressing, you can peel while still warm or wait until fully cooled. Both methods give excellent results with strong adhesion and vibrant prints.
While we recommend a professional heat press for best results, you can use alternatives:
- Household iron: Highest cotton setting (no steam), press firmly section by section for 10–15 seconds each
- Cricut EasyPress: Firm pressure at recommended temperature for 8–10 seconds, consider a second press
A professional heat press guarantees even pressure and accurate temperature for frequent use.
DTF transfers work on cotton, polyester, cotton/poly blends, canvas, denim, and performance fabrics. They work equally well on light and dark garments with vibrant, consistent color.
Before pressing: Pre-press 5 seconds to remove moisture. Ensure clean, lint-free surface.
After pressing: Do a second press (5 seconds) with parchment paper for extra durability.
Washing: Wait 24 hours before first wash. Wash inside-out with cold water, mild detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners. Hang dry or low tumble dry.
Common causes: incorrect temperature, insufficient pressure, premature peeling, dirty fabric, or inconsistent heat from non-professional equipment.
To fix: Cover the area with parchment paper and press again at recommended temperature for 5–7 seconds. Let it cool fully. If problems continue, send photos to our support team.
Layering is possible but we recommend avoiding overlaps unless experienced. Applying over seams, zippers, or uneven surfaces can create air pockets. For best results, press on flat, even areas.
Yes! A 5-second pre-press removes moisture and smooths wrinkles, allowing the transfer to bond evenly and significantly improving adhesion and final quality.
Once pressed, DTF transfers are permanent. They're engineered for durability. We recommend measuring and aligning carefully before pressing. If a mistake happens, you may be able to cover it with another design.
